Identifying and Seizing Career Opportunities in Kenya

In today’s world, it’s very important to keep your eyes peeled for any career opportunities that match your skills, expertise, and most of all your field. Identifying and seizing said career opportunities is no easy feat but today, we might just have got a hack for you. Read on!

“Opportunities do not multiply because they are seen. They multiply because they are seized.” – John Maxwell.

The wise also say that If you are going to create positive change, the ability to see opportunities is not enough; you must also be bold to seize and act on them.

Be self aware

Self-awareness is a powerful tool when it comes to opening doors to new opportunities. Know your strengths, weaknesses and gifts and just be prepared for the time to come and you seize the opportunity to advance your career.

Ear to the ground, eyes wide open

It’s a known fact that opportunities are everywhere, however, they won’t find you in your bed. So, keep your ears to the ground and your eyes peeled for when said opportunities show up. With the emergence of AI and remote work because of the COVID 19 pandemic, there are more opportunities out there than you can count.

The right networks

Opportunities although many revolve around a close few. It’s very important for you to be in bed with the right people so that when opportunities arise, you are right there or you are there to go to guy. These connections mostly come from Mentors, so I hope you have one or even two.

Keep learning

Developing new skills and strengthening those you already have are critical to attracting new opportunities. When you enhance your skills, you become a stronger team player, increase self-confidence and become more adaptable to change.

Stay Open and Curious

When identifying opportunities it is important to stay open and curious about the world around you. Opportunities often come in disguise and can be overlooked if you’re not paying attention. Like I said, keep your eyes on the goal, wide open at all times.

Be the first to lend a hand

Look around and seek opportunities where the potential to make an impact is high. Not only is this a powerful thing but it is also by taking on new challenges that you’ll find opportunities. Moreover, it’s through this that people actually see what  you are capable of or what you can do – so stick your neck high.

Go from goal setting to goal getting

From Olympic athletes to high achievers in every industry, leaders not only set lofty goals but also figure out a process to achieve them. When you set goals and just let them lie idle without an action, you are simply wasting time – go get them.

Stay resilient and persistent

Resilience and perseverance are critical to spotting and seizing opportunity. Always maintain a positive attitude, keep your ear to the ground and be aware of any changes that may be happening around you.

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Many opportunities are found just beyond the borders of your comfort zone. A comfort zone refers to a situation or environment in which a person feels secure, comfortable, and in control, allowing them to function with ease and familiarity – avoid that at all costs.

Act Decisively

Identifying an opportunity is only half the battle; you also need to seize it. This right here takes the right amount of courage. When you see an opportunity that falls right under your skillset, don’t wait too long, don’t think too hard, go and grab it.

“Success happens when opportunity meets preparation.”
